This scene from “Metropolis” still looks impressive, especially when you remember it was made in 1926! When I was writing the music for the film, I knew this was a moment to be treated with extra care.
It’s the first time the robot has appeared, and as movie fans know, it is probably the most recognizable image of the silent era. When one thinks of science fiction, this image often comes to mind.
So here is the scene with my original score.
I am working on extracting more scenes from the films I’ve scored. I enjoy sharing the artistry of the silents, but it’s unrealistic to expect anyone to sit through hours of film to catch these scenes.
